“The Grandfather” Three Meanings of the Tree Paragraph

In the story “The Grandfather” by Gary Soto the most symbolic item is the  avocado tree. The tree represents three things the grandfather, the narrator, and the family. It represents the grandfather because the grandfather saw the tree as hope and cared for it. It represents the narrator because its the thing that his grandfather cherished the most and when it was the narrators turn to take over the tree, it became his hope. The tree represents the family because as each new family member came into the family the tree grew. A tree is like a family because families branch out, and because no matter what they are stuck to the tree. Also because they all support each other, through thick and thin.
