“Through the Tunnel” Prove Yourself Paragraph
When I first started high school as a freshman at San Pasqual Academy, all the teachers thought I was going to be a bad kids and be very disobedient. When my staff told me that is what the teachers thought of me, I decided that I need to change and prove myself to all the teachers. Someone of the things I had to do to prove to them that I was a good student was, I had to focus in class, complete all of my work. I had to not argue with other students and or the teachers, I had to be quiet and friendly to my classmates. Towards the middle of the school year, all of my teachers relaxed and finally thought 100% that I was indeed a good student. It felt great to be know as a good student and not as a destructive one, it felt like winning a war or growing up getting ready for a greater life. Now my feelings about the experience has not changed I am glad for what I did to change.

Dragon Den #6
This week, our new football field, Field of Dreams, was officially dedicated. It was built by the donations of many people and organizations. Last week you received donated school supplies at Shop til You Drop. How do you feel about the people who donate money and supplies to San Pasqual Academy?
The donations to San Pasqual Academy are very generous and helpful. I am very grateful and I appreciate all the things that give to us. When shop till you drop come and we get called in and I see all the clothes, supplies, and when it’s around Christmas the gifts that the raffle out, I get very excited and take a lot of things so that they don’t go to waste. Another special thing that is given to us is the thanksgiving dinner with Jammer, they feed us great food, and a dance crew comes to perform for us, they also have the drawings and side activities that include pictures with the football players. The field of hope is a big deal for the campus, I am really happy that we have a home field finally. We get to play here and anyone who lives here including the staff get to support the football just by walking across the street and not having to drive to another field. Sunday, September 25, 2011

Academic Language Week 5 - Vaccinations
Should vaccinations be required for all children?
"Everyday Use" Before You Read: Tradition
Fifteen years from now on the fourth of July, I will sit be sitting on the roof of my house with my kids watching the fireworks. One of my happy memories of this tradition is when I was young and my dad let me climb onto the roof of my uncles house to see the fireworks better. He also came up to sit with me so I didn’t fall. I will share this with children because I think that they should feel what it felt like to be up on a roof watching bright lights flash in the sky. This is a tradition that I want to pass on because it bonded me to my father even more, and it was really interesting to watch the fireworks on the roof of a house.

What life lesson did you learn the hard way?
A life lesson that I learned the hard way was not to take money out of your saving account when your not allowed to. I learned this when I took out twenty dollars, out of my piggy bank in my house. I now know not to do that because I gained twenty dollars, but then when I was caught, my staff two two weeks of my money earnings as a consequence. I found out that in my saving I had forty-three dollars. I now feel stupid because I gained twenty but lost twenty-three in the end. That is the life lesson I learned, and I now know that I should have not done it.

What was your experience during the major power outage on Thursday night? Write a narrative paragraph with a beginning, middle, and end.
On Thursday evening, I was at football practice when coach said that they had to go figure out the electrical issue. At the end of practice before we had our team dinner, coach said to the whole team that the power was out. They had generators up at the café though so our dinner wasn’t cancelled. Later that night they opened the café for everyone to hang out at, it was boring up there and really loud so I spent most of the time with Jennifer. I also went to sit in my room where I couldn’t see anything, but out the window. Everyone was allowed to sleep in the living room and I slept near Ems, I was on the mattress and she was on the couch. The power came back around 2 a.m. and I was still asleep, the lights didn’t wake me up.

“The Contents of the Dead Man’s Pocket” Minute Paragraph
A minute in my life that felt like forever was when I moved to girls 9. I first moved to San Pasqual Academy in September, it was a hot day and everyone was in school. There were no sounds when I stepped out of the car. All the birds seemed to be silent as they watched the new person step onto their home. I slowly stepped up the stairs fear filling my body, the door came into my view. They opened the door for me and I looked in, I saw a staff sitting watching tv and said hello as I stepped in. The lady and the man that brought me to the house left. When I looked at the time on the clock I realized it took me only a minute to walk in here and how fast the people left me to the staff.

“Contents of the Dead Man’s Pocket” My Yellow Paper Paragraph
I would risk my life to save my phone. It’s important to me because it has pictures of family and friends. Also because it has my numbers in it and is the only way I connect to my family. Lastly because I’m addicted to it and need it to survive, without it I would go crazy throughout the day. I don’t do anything, I have dropped it and the screen has cracked though. I would add a case to it to ensure its safe and I would try not to drop it again. That is something I would risk my life to save, that is a nonliving item.

"Contents of the Dead Man's Pocket" Before You Read: Paralyzed by Fear
When I was 13, I was sitting on the cold chair in the school office. I was called up a the last period, I didn't know what the police wanted me for. The officer brought me to a police station then walked me into a room with a man and a women. They started to talk to me about my father, when it was over they lead me to my sister who was crying. The fear grew stronger, we walked to a car and then they told me that I couldn't go home and wasn't able to live with my father. I froze in the car unable to move or talk I couldn't believe what they were telling me, my dad I cant live with him any more. It all seemed so unreal, looking back I think I would still react that way now if I was told that.

A color that represents me is neon green. I am similar to this color because it is a bright color and I am a bright person. I also am really cool and make people’s day better and brighter. I add smiles to most face around campus and off campus as well. This color represents my personality. This color is symbolic of how energetic and happy I am. I am like the color green which is a Monster energy drink. If you are around me a lot, you will know that this color is me and this color will come to your mind at the same time.

Free Choice Blog Post "Foster kid & Foster youth"
The topic I choose for my free blog post is the use of the term “foster youth and foster kids”. We are all foster kids at San Pasqual Academy, and we don’t need to be reminded every day by teachers, staff, and even people that don’t live at this campus. Saying foster youth is no different from saying we are foster kids, it’s just a nicer way of saying it! A teacher shouldn’t even say we are a foster youth or saying anything to do with us and the system, its unnecessary and we don’t the teacher names so we shouldn’t be called them. Being a foster kid isn’t right everyone knows your business, we all have “anger” issues because they say we do, We have to have a staff with us at all times when we go on outing, unless we are 16 or older with it approved. Being in the system is hard and most adults don’t understand that and act like it wont hurt us, but when we become successful then all the adults can stop talking because it would their fault we failed because they didn’t teach us right from wrong.

Fourth Quarter Kickoff Reflection
The fourth quarter kick off was kind of fun. I didn't want to go to school though because I thought it was going to be really boring. When I went to the flagpole where the freshman were supposed to meet. We got put on teams and went on a scavenger hunt, we all went and found all of our clues and was left with a box of cereal! When we all meet in the tech center we made monkey mix. I liked making it and eating it. All every freshman went to Ms.Preister's room to make monkeys! I was the one who got to hang them up on the wall, some of them fell down though. It was lunch after that, it was really loud and gave me a headache. We played games next the first one was a relay, my team won!!! (Team 4). Then we played softball, we lost of course. Next was in the gym, I played that and had a lot of fun even though we lost. It was an awesome day, and I lost some weight!

My Fourth Quarter Goals
My greatest accomplishment of last quarter was that I didn’t fail any classes, and was able to keep my grades up! I was able to complete this by doing my homework and asking for help when I needed too!!! It was easy for me though because I have great teachers like Ms. Priester and J’J.
My goal for the fourth quarter is to have no missing assignments for any class, and to complete the yearbook on time.

“American History” Experience with Discrimination
A time I was discriminated against is almost every day. The reason this happens is because of my reputation at S.P.A., almost all of the females on this campus do not trust me around their boyfriend or the person that they like. Even if the boy comes up to me first to give me a hug and say “Hi”, I get looks a lot and called names. A lot of things happen because of the discrimination against my reputation even if that reputation is a lie. When this happens it makes me feel like no one knows who I am really, and that they just trust the people that they are in “love” with.
