Theme Comparison Essay
for “The Sniper” and “Cranes”

“Cranes” and “The Sniper” two stories, two main characters, all having to choice between wars. “Cranes” is about two friends that met in the wrong way after a long time of not seeing each other. “The Sniper” is about a young man whom was stationed on a rooftop and had another sniper across from him. Both stories have a relation to the other character. “Cranes” is the old friend, “The Sniper” is the brother who is on the other rooftop. “Cranes” theme is about knowing that choosing friendships and sadness come from war.

The main character in “The Sniper” is a young man in the civil war as a sniper. The conflict in this story is that their is another sniper on the rooftop across from him. How it is fixed is that the sniper tricks the other man and shoots him and kills him. At the end he realizes that war was not worth it. The theme of this story is that war is not worth fighting and killing his own family.

The main character in “Cranes” is Songsam, a peace keeper who is escorting his old friend. The conflict of this story is that Songsam doesn't understand why Tokchae was arrested and did not run. The conflict was fixed because Songsam knew that Tokchae was Innocent and that he did not deserve to die. Songsan changes, because at first he only thought of Tokchae as another man who was going to get shot. The theme of “Cranes” is that friends and family come first and the rest is put behind them.

Both stories are about how a war can change one’s life and that friends and family come first. In “Cranes” the main ide, is that Songam understood Tokchae and what he did. In “The Sniper” the sniper still has not be able to understand why he was assigned to where his brother was.Songsam an The Sniper both had to learn through a hard way, that war is destruction and it brings people closer.

Homeroom Reform Essay

Jennifer C.
Ms.Priester
English 9
Homeroom Essay

Life skills are skills to help you in every day life. San Pasqual Academy, has a P.E.T. program to help miners get jobs on campus. Off campus internships a program to help apply for non intern jobs. They also have programs to help apply for college and scholarships. We should win because, it would provide us with additional help to succeed in interactions and association with job interviews professionally in adulthood.

Life skills are the basic 101. It would wok for us by giving us the support needed  for our adult lives. SPA would use the funding to provide training to properly interact on professionally on our own. It will teach us to be able to work on our own, not having someone tell us what to do.

These skills will help us, by giving us experiences to deal with life. It will effect us by building our confidence to face adult responsibilities. Winning would help us by giving us the tools for parenting. Another way it helps us is by knowing how to care for a child. Parenting is an important part of life and so is the skills needed.

Our old principle Mr. Major taught a class in summer school, on how to work at school. Some examples that he taught us are, taking notes, posture, dressing. We have worked on the project, by support from staff and adults on campus. Another way, is by having an English support class to help use correct grammar, writing skills. The help put into this project wasn’t much but if we try harder it could happen.

The impact would by the rate of the going to and graduating from collage would start to incline. It will help San Pasqual Academy by giving us the education that is most important in life, these skills will take us far. It will also help by teaching us what we will need to be able to do in our adult live. This impact on our school will be huge for everyone on it and who will come.

Winning would make a big impact in our daily life. This skill is helpful in every way, even kids. It would even change the way someone presents them self. My final thought is that if we won that it would be wonderful, we would be very grateful and thankful for everything.

I wrote this essay with my staff Laura. We wrote it for the KNSD Homeroom Reform Essay Contest (http://www.nbcsandiego.com/brchannel/103556549.html)
