A Roman Emperor named, Marcus Aurelius, was murdered by his power-hungry and jealous son, Commodus, because Marcus was going to leave the empire with a General named, Maximus Meridas. Maximus ends up becoming a slave, with his son and wife murdered by Commodus’ order of execution. Then Maximus get taken away
and becomes a Gladiator, who is taught by Proximo in each battle ends up making Commodus look bad, by being merciful and winning every battle, waiting for the time that he can kill Commodusand fulfill Marcus Aurelius dying wish. Commodus’ sister Lucilla, who is a window mother to Lucius the heir to the empire. Commodus lusts for his sister, but get mad when he finds out that Lucius falls in love with Maximus, he wants her to love him and not Maximus. When Commodus finds out that she and a Senate was plotting against him he fights the Gladiator Maximus, and kills Proximo. Commodus talks to Maximus who tried to escape, and stabs Maximus in the side because he is mad and jealous that his father loved Maximus more and his sister also loves Maximus more. In the fight Maximus is wounded and weak, also he is starting to loose his life and is starting to go the the after life. Maximus knocks Commodus’ sword from his hands and no one will give Commodus another sword, so Commodus takes out a little dagger from his arm glove and tries to kill Maximus, but Maximus turns the dagger to Commodus, who is trying to hit Maximus in the head, but instead stabbes himself. Maximus also pushes the blade into Commodus’ neck, Commodus falls to the floor. Maximus takes some steps seeing a house and trees, then a field, but is called back to this world. He tells them to free his men, and to reinstate the Senate who helped him. He falls to the floor and runs after him is Lucilla, who tells Maximus to go to his family and that Lucius is safe. He goes and sees his wife and son in the afterlife, in Rome the living world Lucilla tells the Senate to prove to them that Rome is worth the life of a good man’s life, and to honor Maxumus. The Senate says that Maximus is a good warrior and asks who will help him carry him, many of Maximus men help carry him and so does Lucius. In the end Maximus is with his wife and son.
